The Cassowary Coast branch has had a brief hiatus over summer. It’s been hot, very humid and flooding on and off for several months but that’s life in the tropics!
Our last meeting, held in December, was a social lunch at El Arish Tavern. Bob gave a short presentation about his hives and Stewart showed us the Cairns branch’s latest purchase.
Bob has been making vertical split hives for T hockingsi for many years and described a recent split. His ideas around vertical splitting piqued interest with several members and we’re all hoping to see a vertical split demonstration from Bob once the weather is conducive to hive splitting.
Stewart showed us a security post and cage the Cairns branch has purchased from Spicers Hollow to secure adisplay hive that the Cairns branch is establishing in a local golf course. It is certainly solid and our branch looks forward to reports on the success of this project.
